Scientific Committee

dr hab. Sylwia Różalska, prof. UŁ

A biotechnologist, mycologist, microbiologist, and academic teacher at the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Łódź. I have been associated with the Polish Mycological Society since 2013, where I currently serve as the Chair of the Audit Committee. My research focuses on the potential applications of microscopic fungi in biotechnological processes, with particular emphasis on their ability to degrade toxic substances. Currently, I am investigating the degradative and biotransformational potential of entomopathogenic fungi, as well as their unconventional applications in biotechnology. My research also explores the impact of toxic substances on the production of secondary metabolites by fungi. Additionally, I am interested in the influence of environmental factors on interactions between fungi and plants.

prof. dr hab. katarzyna lisowska

Biotechnologist, microbiologist, Director of the Institute of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Immunology and Head of the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz. Specialist in the field of microbial biotechnology. The area of her scientific interests includes: the processes of fungal detoxification and degradation of xenobiotics that are particularly dangerous for the environment (including endocrine disrupting compounds – EDCs), research on the biological activity of nanomaterials synthesized by fungi, in particular metal nanoparticles. She was the manager and contractor of many scientific projects financed through domestic and foreign competitions, carried out in scientific cooperation. She is a member of the Biotechnology Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Technical Committee for Soil Chemistry of the Polish Committee for Standardization.

dr hab. Mirosława Słaba, prof. UŁ

Biotechnologist, mycologist and microbiologist, Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz.
Member of the Polish Mycological Society since 2013, chairwomen of the section Micromycetes in Health, Environment and Industry in 2020-2024. The area of my scientific activities includes research on the mechanisms of the interactions of Trichoderma fungi and wheat in the polluted environment, including heavy metals and microplastic; search for extracellular metabolites important in these interactions; studies of the degradation potential of biocontrol fungi; characterization of oxidative stress parameters in fungal cells growing under uncomfortable environmental conditions.

dr hab. Przemysław Bernat, prof. UŁ

Dr hab. Przemysław Bernat is an Associate Professor at the University of Lodz (Poland). His Ph.D. in Biology was done at the University of Lodz. His research interest includes metabolomics (especially lipidomics) of microorganisms and their biodegradation ability. He is also interested in the interaction between microorganisms and plants, with a special focus on metabolomics. He is an author of more than 90 publications.

Organising Committee

Sebastian Piskorski

I am a PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences at the University of Łódź and a board member of the Polish Mycological Society. My research focuses on fungi associated with invertebrates, particularly spiders. I study the taxonomy and ecology of fungi from the order Hypocreales. Additionally, I am interested in wood-associated fungi, exploring their ecology and diversity in Poland and worldwide.

Anastasiia Kulbachko

Explorer of the microworld and science enthusiast! I am a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences at the University of Lodz. I am researching the impact of microplastics and heavy metals on microscopic fungi, delving into the secrets of ecosystems. Outside the lab, I love spending time actively – movement is the best way for me to reset!

Olga Rusiecka

I am a 3rd year PhD student in the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology at the UniLodz. My scientific interests are in environmental microbiology, sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. My research focuses on the effects of biodegradable microplastics on fungi and plants. Personally, I am a plant and cat lover who likes to spend free time actively, walking, training, cycling or rollerblading.

Aleksandra Tończyk

I’m a PhD finisher with a great luck to be surrounded by people who know how to support the process. My research focus on silver nanoparticles biosynthesis using brown root fungus Gloeophyllum striatum, my partner in crime of choice. In my hardly ever occuring free time I do some horsing around and some homemade stand-up gags, just in case I ever need a plan B.

Katarzyna Prochoń

I’m a first-year PhD student at the BioMedChem Doctoral School of the University of Łódź and the Łódź Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. My research currently focuses on the impact of endophytic bacteria on microgreens. However, fungi are not unfamiliar to me, as during my master’s studies, I worked with entomopathogenic fungi. In my free time, I am a big fan of video games, TV series, and hiking in the mountains.

Marta Pietrzak

I am a PhD student at BioMedChem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a graduate of microbial biotechnology. My research focuses on entomopathogenic fungi and their interactions with insects, particularly in the context of biocontrol. Outside of my scientific work, I enjoy spending time in nature and relaxing with puzzle-solving.

Anna Galińska

Student

Julia Mejbaum

I am a second-year Bachelor student at the University of Łódź. I am particularly interested in fungal pathogens of arthropods, especially spiders. In my spare time, I enjoy reading speculative fiction, hiking, and textile crafts.

Maria Szpakowska

I am a student of Microbiology and Biotechnology at the University of Łódź. Personally, I love cats, dogs, and good books.

Konrad Karalus

I am a microbiological biotechnology student at the University of Łódź with an interest in music.

Klaudia Bonikowska

I am a 1st year master’s student in Microbiological Biotechnology at the University of Łódź. My scientific interests focus on the characterization and biodegradation of compounds that modulate the endocrine system. Personally, I am a book lover who enjoys broadening horizons through reading, as well as long mountain hikes – my way of relaxing and recharging.
